Management of Geohazards During Operations Course - Coming Soon!

This course aims to provide guidance on how to manage geohazards that affect operational pipelines in compliance with ISO standard ISO 20074:2019. The content is focused on the use of in-line inspection for the identification and evaluation of hazards because this provides factual data on whether the pipeline has been affected by loading as well as measuring changes in subsequent inspections to demonstrate how active the movement threat is. In addition, it provides an excellent source of data for the evaluation of the threat including structural calculations. A broad understanding of the nature of geohazard threats, ground conditions and terrain is included in the course. At the end of the course, you will be familiar with the terminology, principles, and methods of protecting pipelines from the potentially catastrophic effects of geohazards.

Andy Young - Principal Engineer

Andy Young is a Principal Geohazards Engineer working for the ROSEN Integrity Services team in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. His first degree was in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics and he has a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He has over 30 years' of experience in the assessment of loading on pipelines including ground investigations, appraisal of ground conditions, identification of ground hazards, quantification of ground movement loads, structural analysis of pipelines and protection of pipeline assets by monitoring and mitigation measures. Andy developed and delivered the Pipelines and Geohazards module for the MSc in Pipeline Integrity Management at the University of Northumbria. He has been involved in the development of many industry standards and specifications on ground movement and pipeline loading including IGEM/TD/1 and also the recent geohazard management standard ISO 20074:2019.
