Structure your professional development with ROSEN’s Competency Standards Manual for Pipeline Integrity Management

Our team has been working diligently since 2015 to develop effective solutions for enhancing pipeline integrity skills. We have recognized the significant importance of having a transparent and well-defined process for measuring and evaluating the skills and levels of competence in the pipeline industry. As a result, we collaborated with industry experts and members of the Qualification Panel for the Pipeline Industry (QPPI) to create the industry's first Competency Standards Manual for Pipeline Integrity Management.

The Competency Standards Manual, spanning over 285 pages, presents 42 competencies across four well-defined levels of knowledge- awareness, foundation, practitioner, and expert. These standards establish the minimum requirements for engineers working on different tasks and levels and provide a structured approach that helps in assessing and maintaining competencies. In addition, the manual serves as the basis for our 70+ training courses and various examinations.

Competence, as defined in the manual, requires a combination of skills, knowledge, experience, and behavior. Each competence is assessed and evaluated to ensure qualification, with the manual outlining the subject matter, level, and specific skills and knowledge required for each competency. The manual also specifies pre-requisites, co-requisites, and recommended training, mentoring, and experience to help individuals acquire the necessary competencies.

  • At the Awareness level, you will be aware of pipeline design (front-end engineering and detailed design), principle standards, and regulations and understand the basis of key contents of design standards, including design for strength and fatigue.

  • At the Foundation level, you will be able to discuss pipeline design (front-end engineering and detailed design) principles, standards, and regulations. You will be able to outline and summarise the basis of key contents of design standards, including design for strength and fatigue.

  • At the Practitioner level, you will be able to perform pipeline design (front-end engineering and detailed design) using differing standards and apply and employ the key concepts of design standards, including valves, crossings, bends, temperature effects, geo-technics, environmental impact, and fracture control.

  • At the Expert level, you can teach pipeline design (front-end engineering and detailed design) and rule on different standards and regulations. You will also be able to justify the bases of the key content of design standards.

Once you have completed your self-assessment, you can enhance your professional development by using the recommended tools in the manual or by exploring our training courses, which are based on predefined standards.
