What Are The Topics Covered In The Program?
In the Advanced Program in Pipeline Engineering Principles (CS001F+), the following topics are covered:
Module 1: Why Pipelines Fail - Explore why pipelines, though a generally safe method for transporting hydrocarbons, sometimes fail. Key focus is on challenges posed by ageing infrastructure.
Module 2: Pipeline Design - Review essential design factors, including standards, sizing, wall thickness, and location classifications to ensure structural integrity under pressure and load.
Module 3: Bends, Crossings, and Valves - Learn about the purpose and types of bends, crossings, and valves in pipeline systems, along with essential terminology.
Module 4: Onshore Pipeline Construction - Gain insight into the workforce and equipment involved in onshore pipeline construction, with an emphasis on safety for both workers and the environment.
Module 5: Pipeline Operation - Understand the operation of pipelines through control systems, including SCADA, and learn about methods for leak detection.
Module 6: In-Line Inspection - Examine the use of in-line inspection tools like “pigs” and “smart pigs” for detecting metal loss, geometry changes, and cracks. Discuss tool selection for various inspection needs.
Module 7: Pipeline Repair - Learn strategies for pipeline repair, covering pressure reductions, repair methods, and the importance of documentation.
Module 8: Integrity Assessment and Management - Explore best practices in integrity management, incident prevention, risk assessment, and data management.
