Introduction to Fracture Mechanics (CS032A)

Introduction to Fracture Mechanics

This course will help you understand the underlying principles, concepts, technical parameters and methods for assessing defects such as cracks, in high pressure pipelines and associated components under static and cyclic (fatigue) loading, including the determination of appropriate loadings and material properties.

This technical course has been authored by our industry expert, Bob Andrews, and is designed to offer you with just-in-time knowledge related to pipeline integrity management. The courses can be studied as part of your learning journey, or used as a reference library.

Bob Andrews

Dr Andrews has worked in structural integrity and solid mechanics for more than 35 years and is presently involved in consultancy for the upstream oil and gas industry and high pressure transmission pipelines. Consultancy roles performed include development of new integrity assessment methods, integrity assessment of pipelines and pressure systems, failure investigation and acting as an expert witness. He is a member of British Standards Institute committee WEE/37 which is responsible for the fitness for purpose guide BS 7910 and also project coordinator for the European Pipeline Research Group, having previously been a member of their Materials committee. He presents regularly at international conferences and is a former member of the editorial board of the journal “Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures.”
